“By their fruits you will know them”. (Matthew 7:16)

“The community of believers
was of one heart and mind, and
no one claimed that anything
was their own, but they shared
everything in common.” (Acts 4:32)

I very briefly wanted to give attention to a noteworthy website – justice.net.nz

The website, of the Social Justice Commission of the Anglican Church, has weighed in with comment on a number of social issues, on topics as broad as single men in hard times, and supermarket waste. They remind us that in this so called ‘time of plenty’, there are many stains on the fabric of New Zealand.

Many bad things have been associated with Christianity, so it’s easy to forget the good associated with the religion. A number of people I love and respect find a God that endorses justice, humility, and compassion. It’s a form of Christianity that I was brought up with, and even though I’m now an atheist and contend that these are human rather than religious values, much of that teaching still has a strong influence on my life.

  1. I agree with your sentiments about religion. Despite being an atheist, and in agreement with Marx that religion is the opiate of the masses, it’s also worth remembering his other prescient statement on the matter:

“Religion is the sigh of the oppressed creature, the heart of a heartless world” — Marx

  2. Thanks Bryce. I’m not one to condemn any institution without reservation. There’s some good or reason behind everything humans do.

  3. Somehow i missed the point. Probably lost in translation :) Anyway … nice blog to visit.

    cheers, Predispose.
